Instalarse, Habitar, Vivir

Sound design and development for “Instalarse, Habitar, Vivir”, by Agustín Anzorena, Mariana Lombard and Leandro Yabkowski.

Statistical data, a map and field recordings of the city of Buenos Aires serve as materials to create, through algorithmic processes, a machinic vision of the urban. It consists of the zenithal projection of a virtual environment that shows a program that traces the map of the city's communes. At the same time, erected buildings and constructions manage to hide the base map before it shows in its entirety. The point of view of the surroundings is also overhead, creating a dizzying effect by being able to observe the growth of the buildings from above.

Six bus handles are installed on the perimeter of the space generated by the projection and hanging from the ceiling. When one of these handles is grabbed it triggers the transformation of the virtual environment. Then the city is modified by circular entities "pixel-citizens" that springs from each handle place and breaks into the urban fabric to deconstruct it. This event is also accompanied by changes in the sound that are in tune with the gradual change of the system, inviting a contemplation of the urban environment.

In this way, we present the city as a “machine for living” and the information and data generated as dynamic sources of energy that allow its unlimited operation. Faced with what is reproduced autonomously, generatively, incessantly, it seems that only collective action (in this case of the spectators / inhabitants of the work) remains as a force capable of diverting that course.
